Project Description: There are three aims in this
research:
- Conduct an impact evaluation of the implementation of medication
safety clinical decision support system (CDS) alerts on medication errors and
adverse events (ADEs) associated with generic and therapeutic drug
duplications, appropriate drug-laboratory monitoring, appropriate prescribing
in patients >65 years of age, drug-drug interactions, and appropriate
prescribing in pregnancy.
- Use qualitative research methods to design
medication safety CDS alerts that are considered by prescribers to be useful
and easy to use.
- Conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the implementation
of the ambulatory setting (ACPOE)/CDS system from the perspective of the health
system.
Career Goals: Dr. Devine is a Research
Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington, Seattle. She received her Pharm.D. from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA and did her pharmacy residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA. She went on to earn her M.B.A. at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Devine is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Health Services at the University of Washington. Her long-term goal is to become an independent investigator in
health services focusing on the impact of ACPOE on medication safety.
Progress to Date: Data collection for Aim #3 is
on-going. Data collection for Aims #1 and 2 are being operationally adjusted.
Dr. Devine has co-authored three submitted grant proposals and had two
manuscripts published.
Future Plans: The grantee will continue
manuscript development while she works on Aims #1 and 2. She will also
complete her dissertation.
